Our History:

The Peasant Guild was founded in 1992 by two participants of the Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire newly immigrated to the Central Coast of California. The organization was originally called the "Simpson Family" but shortly after the formation
of the group, it was changed to The Peasant Guild. In 2003, there was a major re-structuring of the organization and its' leadership which heralded the reign of the New Peasant Guild. In its fifteen year history, The Peasant Guild and its members have participated in over 50 Renaissance and Pirate festivals in 15 locations throughout
California and Nevada and have made several educational presentations at local schools
and for the media. Currently, we attend and perform at between three and five festivals
a year.

Who We Are:

The Peasant Guild is a troupe of English peasants and seafaring privateers. Our mission
is to educate, perform and historically reenact the English Renaissance period of history
at Renaissance faires, Pirate faires and in the community. We are a non-profit organization averaging between 35 and 50 members that range in age between infancy and seniority.

At Renaissance faires, we represent the peasant or lower class of Elizabethan England,
while at Pirate faires we are known as the "Crew of the Rusty Nail", English privateers in the service of the Queen. At every faire we are the costumed characters that march in parades, meet, interact and play games with visitors to our shire or seaport, while
providing entertainment in the form of singing and improvisational skits. As singers we perform pretty renaissance songs, rowdy drinking songs, sea shantys and piratical pirate songs.

Our home faire is the Central Coast Renaissance Festival. This faire occurs the third weekend of July at El Chorro Regional Park, in the city of San Luis Obispo in California. Besides performing and acting as basic character background, we are also the Hospitality Guild for this festival. We manage the Blue Boar Inn where we sell liquid refreshment to other adult performers and provide free snacks, lemonade, water and a shady place for actors of all ages to come, sit and relax between their shows.
